If open source means giving Amazon carte blanche to profit from your work and never contribute anything back, open source is worthless.

It's a Monday morning, so have a couple of manifestos (manifestoes? manifesti?) that meet my mood:

The Code It Yourself Manifesto by Christian Kellerman (h/t @crc): pestilenz.org/~ckeen/blog/post

The Handmade Manifesto by Andrew Chronister (h/t @owl): handmade.network/manifesto

11/ So #Signal gives people: dead-simple setup, store-and-forward delivery, encrypted everything, encrypted voice/video calls, ability to send photos/video encrypted. If you are going to tell someone "it's so EASY to get your texts away from Facebook and AT&T", THIS IS THE THING you've got to point them to. It may not be in 2 years, but for now, it is. Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. It advances the status quo without harming usability, which nothing else does yet.

Police brutality (descriptions, its a lot)

"While Taladay forced his knee into Daniel’s back and Santiago held down his legs, Vaughn pushed Daniel’s head into the ground using all of his body weight -- essentially doing a triangle pushup on his head. Less than ten minutes after he was cuffed, Daniel Prude breathed his last conscious breath."

Police brutality (descriptions, its a lot)

"While cuffed, naked, and laying on the freezing cold ground, RPD officers mocked Daniel Prude and cracked jokes, and put a bag over his head. RPD officers Mark Vaughn, Troy Talladay, and Fransisco Santiago then proceeded to swarm him."

Police brutality (descriptions, its a lot)

"On March 23rd, 2020 the Rochester Police Department (RPD) executed a Black man named Daniel Prude. Mr. Prude was naked, unarmed, and experiencing a mental health crisis. Daniel’s brother Joe had called 911 for help. No one trained to respond to a mental health crisis arrived at the 400 Block of Jefferson Avenue -- Rochester police did. Daniel complied with all orders by the police."

local ACAB incident

Just a few days ago our local prize hog, this dumbass named Mike Mazzeo, had the gall to say that Rochester “didn’t have the same problems as the rest of the country.”

Apparently, what he meant by “problems” is people finding out what his department does when asked to take care of people having mental health issues.

local ACAB incident

Don’t know if y’all will have seen this, but the Rochester PD murdered a man in the middle of a mental health episode, who was naked and unarmed and lying in cold, wet snow, joked about it on scene, and kept it the fuck secret for five months, so they could get their fancy new substation and a bunch of money through the new city budget.

Fuck cops. Today, tomorrow, forever.
